Argentine referee Facundo Tello will take charge of the World Cup quarter-final between France and Morocco on Thursday.
L'Équipe reports that the officiating team will be entirely Argentine, with assistants Juan Pablo Belatti and Gabriel Chade, Dario Herrera as fourth official, and Christian Navarro on VAR.
Tello, 44, is at his second World Cup. He notably oversaw the 2022 quarter-final between Portugal and Morocco, which finished 0-1.
This will be his third match of the 23rd edition. Earlier in the tournament he handled Canada v Bosnia, which ended 1-1, then South Korea v South Africa, which finished 0-1.
France v Morocco will be his first knockout assignment of this World Cup. The decision follows controversy around Frenchman François Letexier refereeing Argentina v Egypt in the round of 16 on Tuesday, which drew strong protests in Argentina, with some alleging scandalous past conduct.
