FC Barcelona entered the new season with uncertainty on how the Hansi Flick era at the club was going to pan out. Joan Laporta had taken a gamble on the German coach, much like he did with Pep Guardiola all those years ago and his failed international stint with Germany was pointed out as a cause of concern.

However, Hansi Flick, in his first few months as Barcelona coach has exceeded expectations and gone beyond. The ex-Bayern Munich manager has placed immense faith in La Masia and built his team around youngsters who seem determined to succeed at the club.

Of course, Flick has also managed to resurrect the careers of veterans like Inigo Martinez and Robert Lewandowski, brought the best out of Raphinha and Jules Kounde and given chances to players like Marc Casado and Pablo Torre, who did not get much game time under Xavi Hernandez.

Casado is one player, who just like the coach, has exceeded expectations and emerged as one of the best pivots in the world at the moment. He has now been called up to the Spain senior squad by Luis de la Fuente in what is truly a breakthrough season.

It could have gotten very frustrating for Casado when he was called up to so many senior squads last season but never given a significant chance by Xavi. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the ‘fantastic’ midfielder was questioned if he ever considered leaving Barcelona and here is what he said:

“Not because I wanted to. It’s true that there were moments when I said, ‘If I’m not playing here, we need to look for another option,’ but I’ve always wanted to play for Barça, wear this shirt, and hopefully make history at this club.”

Whenever Casado speaks, his love for the club is visible in his words. He gets Barcelona like very few other players do and fans must be eternally thankful to Hansi Flick for spotting the potential and giving him a regular chance to play in the first-team this season.

Now that the accolades have started coming, it is time for the 21-year-old to continue working hard and developing his game to become a well-rounded pivot. His positional game has already grown leaps and bounds this season but there is always room for improvement.

If Casado can continue on the same trajectory, the future is bright for the 21-year-old. He has the potential to mark an era at Barcelona alongside Marc Bernal and let’s wait and see how his future plays out and what heights he can achieve in his career.
