As in previous seasons, we’ll highlight 10 players to consider adding to your Fantasy Bundesliga team ahead of each matchday.
This season, however, we’re not just focusing on differentials, but will provide general recommendations ahead of each matchday.
Here are our picks for Matchday 5:
Derrick Köhn, 1. FC Union Berlin (Defender, 3.51M, 0%)
Köhn made his first start for Union in last week’s 4-3 win over Eintracht Frankfurt and is expected to retain his place for this week’s favorable home clash against Hamburger SV. Köhn only scored 57 points against Eintracht, but this week’s game should be very different. With Union expected to be much more on the ball, the attacking wing-back is an interesting option at just 3.51 million.
Julian Chabot, Stuttgart (Defender, 9.15M, 20%)
It may have flown under the radar for some, but Chabot has scored over 200 points in each of the three games he has played so far. Stuttgart are coming off a solid 2-0 win and have a favorable schedule ahead, making him an even more appealing option.
Raphael Guerreiro, FC Bayern (Defender, 10.01M, 0%)
Back from injury, Guerreiro is expected to start at left-back in the absence of Josip Stanisic when Bayern face Werder Bremen on Friday. In a game that could result in another comfortable win for Bayern, the attack-minded Portuguese international is an intriguing differential.
If Guerreiro doesn’t start – you’ll be able to see this before the deadline – Sacha Boey is likely to play instead. At 4.03 million, he'd be a very appealing option in that scenario.
Nico Schlotterbeck, Borussia Dortmund (Defender, 13.25M, 1%)
Schlotterbeck made a surprise return from injury last week, earning a respectable 194 points. The centre-back should continue to rack up consistent points through his involvement in Dortmund’s passing play, while also contributing with his strength in duels and threat on set pieces.
Jens Castrop, Borussia Mönchengladbach (Midfielder, 2.47M, 0%)
Castrop was brought into the starting lineup in interim coach Eugen Polanski’s first game in charge, playing in an attacking midfield role. He looked lively and even had a goal ruled out for offside. With Castrop costing just 2.47 million, he's a great value pick.
Fabian Rieder, Augsburg (Midfielder, 7.4M, 1%)
On corners and free-kicks, Augsburg’s new signing has averaged 232 points across his first two games. This week, he faces bottom-placed Heidenheim as Augsburg look to bounce back.
Bilal El Khannouss, Stuttgart (Midfielder, 12.25M, 0%)
The attacking midfielder played a key role in Stuttgart’s 2-0 win over St. Pauli last week, scoring and picking up 314 points. A nailed-on starter as long as Deniz Undav is out, he looks like an excellent option - especially given Stuttgart’s favorable run of fixtures. The only downside is his relatively high price.
Mikkel Kaufmann, Heidenheim (Striker, 1.12M, 1%)
Costing just 1.12 million, Kaufmann picked up a solid 157 points while filling in for the suspended Budu Zivizadze last week. With the Georgian forward also unavailable for the next two games, the Danish striker is expected to continue leading the line.
Ilyas Ansah, Union Berlin (Striker, 6.41M, 4%)
Ansah has made a stunning start to the season, averaging an impressive 245 points so far. After playing a key role in an impressive 4-3 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, the forward now faces HSV at home, making him an extremely appealing option – alongside fellow Union strikers Andrej Ilic (7.57M, 0%) and Oliver Burke (6.03M, 0%).
Fisnik Asllani, Hoffenheim (Striker, 9.91M, 6%)
Another striker off to a strong start is Hoffenheim’s Fisnik Asllani, who has averaged 237 points per game. Even in Hoffenheim’s heavy 1-4 defeat to Bayern last week, he managed a respectable 161 points despite not being involved in his team’s goal. With Hoffenheim’s upcoming fixtures easing up, now could be a good time to bring him in.
