FC Basel have cancelled Kanye West’s concert scheduled for 26 June at Parc Saint-Jacques, because of the 48-year-old American’s past antisemitic remarks.
After a review, the club decided not to proceed as offering such a platform would conflict with its values.
West’s European tour is faltering. Last Thursday he postponed his only French date, 11 June at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille, after Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said he was examining legal options to ban the show over his antisemitic comments in recent years.
On 7 April the UK barred him from entering the country. He had been due to headline Wireless Festival from 10 to 12 July, which was then cancelled.
On Friday, officials at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow, Poland, also cancelled his 19 June concert for legal and administrative reasons. The decision was welcomed by the government, and Culture Minister Marta Cienkowska urged organisers not to make public space available to promoters of a criminal ideology.
The rapper, now known as Ye, apologised in January for antisemitic and pro-Adolf Hitler remarks, which he attributed to untreated bipolar disorder.
