FC Bayern Women have signed Sarah Mattner from Austrian Bundesliga club St. Pölten. The 23-year-old Germany international joins on a three-year contract until 30 June 2029.
Bianca Rech, FC Bayern Women director: “We’re really happy we could bring in Sarah and that she will wear the Bayern shirt from next season. She’s showed very good development in the Austrian Bundesliga in recent years and was one of the best players last season. There’s a reason she was called up to Germany’s senior team this year. Sarah has a very interesting profile. She can be used in a flexible way on the wings in both attack and defence, has good physicality and speed, and likes to go for one-v-ones. We firmly believe that she will take the next step with us, given her potential and mentality, and give our team additional quality and variability.”

Sarah Mattner: “I’m really happy to have signed for Bayern. It’s a big step in my career, which felt right from the first moment. The club is one of the biggest in the world, and I think every player gets excited when Bayern pay attention to you. The whole package was what mattered to me. The level of football is so high, the conditions are extremely professional, but it all still feels like a family. That combination of maximum aspirations and an approachable, personal environment is special to me. The city and the setting are also a good fit for me. Proximity to my home also plays a big role. All that makes me very positive and gives me the feeling that I’m in exactly the right place. I have the opportunity here to develop further in both a sporting and a personal sense.”
Mattner was born on 11 May 2003 in Vienna and has both a German and French passport. She started playing football at the age of eight with First Vienna, coming through the youth teams before making her senior debut at the age of just 14. She joined St. Pölten in January 2023, making her debut that March in the Austrian Cup and catching the eye with a four-goal haul in a league win over Altenmarkt. Mattner won the domestic double with St. Pölten in both 2023 and 2024, claiming another league title in 2025 as well as getting to compete in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The versatile wide player has represented Germany since U16 level and currently plays for the U23s, having also been called up for the senior team in April 2026 but without making an appearance. Mattner won the bronze Fritz Walter Medal at U19 level in 2022.
