FC Porto defender Thiago Silva has taken matters into his own hands, publicly calling on Manchester United midfielder Casemiro to join him at the Portuguese club.
In January, Casemiro confirmed that he will be departing United at the end of the season once his contract expires.
The Brazilian joined United in the summer of 2022 from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70m. He has been a key player for United, featuring prominently under Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim and current caretaker boss Michael Carrick.
While his performances may have wavered at times, Casemiro’s professionalism and experience have made him a firm favourite among supporters. Noussair Mazraoui even confessed that his influence in the dressing room will be hugely missed.
United had the option of extending his stay by an additional 12 months but opted against it, presumably to offload his massive wages from the books.
A return to his native Brazil has been mooted, while there has also been interest from Major League Soccer in the United States.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the five-time Champions League winner is on the radar of Juventus and AC Milan.
However, fellow countryman Thiago Silva has encouraged Casemiro to make a move back to FC Porto and link up with him there.
Silva told TNT Sports Brazil, “I’d like to play alongside Casemiro again. ‘Casão’ is a special person. He’s had a winning career and I believe his spell here at FC Porto was very good, even if it wasn’t that long.”
“It was beautiful to see ‘Casão’ here, just like Alex Sandro, Danilo, Hulk. Hulk’s story in this museum is incredible.”
Silva continued, “Having him on our side is much better than having him against us. So we send a little message: ‘Hey Casemiro, are we doing this or not? Are we going to be together again?'”
“It would be a dream to play again with Casemiro in front of the defence, running, making those crazy tackles and protecting the back line, which is what he knows how to do.”
“If it depends on Thiago Silva, that partnership is already signed.”
Meanwhile, Casemiro and United return to action on Sunday when they host Aston Villa at Old Trafford. The game kicks off at 14:00 GMT.
