Felipe Vizeu, a Flamengo academy graduate now at Sporting Cristal, has revisited his clash with defender Rhodolfo during a 2017 Brasileirão match against Corinthians in Rio.
After scoring one of Flamengo’s goals at the then Ilha do Urubu on Governador Island, Vizeu turned towards Rhodolfo and made an obscene gesture. The defender rushed at him, but team-mates held him back. The pair reconciled after the match and gave a joint interview in the dressing room.
“Some players were returning from the national team, Trauco was with Peru and had not trained, he came straight in to play. I was sorting things with him for a corner and it went wrong, in the moment they wanted to throw it on me. Rhodolfo was a bit worked up, thinking I was to blame,” he told GE.
“The problem was the goal came right after. I was angry because I knew I was not to blame and reacted. To tell the truth, at no moment did I think or realise what I was doing. When I went off at half-time, some players took me away because the press were coming, though I was leaving normally.”
Vizeu joined Flamengo in 2013 from América-MG, stepped up to the first team in 2016, then moved to Udinese in 2018 for six million dollars, R$ 19 million at the time. He made 75 appearances and scored 20 goals.
Flamengo are back in action on Thursday 07 against Independiente Medellín, kick-off 21h30 Brasília time at Estadio Atanasio Girardot, in the fourth round of the Libertadores.
