Ferguson’s Roma future at risk ahead of January

Evan Ferguson’s position in Roma’s plans is far from solid.
In Rome, the Irish striker has yet to impress; in fact, he’s never truly succeeded.
Since arriving in the capital, he’s only scored for his national team; while for the Giallorossi, however, he continues to fail. He started well, without scoring but with encouraging performances, only to be overtaken in the pecking order by Artem Dovbyk and even the “false nine.”
In recent days, rumors of a possible return to England as early as January have become increasingly insistent.
Yet, Ferguson will have a chance to change his fate.
The 2004-born striker has recovered from an ankle injury and is back with the team. In Cremona, Gian Piero Gasperini could give him another chance to prove his worth and, above all, find the goal that continues to elude him.
If the coach were to opt for a lean attack, the message would be two clear ones: either Ferguson isn’t 100% yet, or he’s slipped to the margins. Between now and January, however, there will be no shortage of opportunities.
With Dovbyk sidelined until at least mid-December, the Irishman remains the only available center forward. Eight games—from Cremona to Genoa on December 29th—will attempt to reverse the sentiment and convince the club.
Then comes the time for decisions. If Roma were to opt for Ferguson’s return to Brighton, the club would be on the hunt for a new striker. The names circled in red by Frederic Massara are already known: Joshua Zirkzee, Mathys Tel, and Yuri Alberto. Important profiles that, for now, are only being evaluated. But they are also the ghosts Ferguson is harboring as he plays out his future in Rome.
