Ferland Mendy is set to stand trial in Spain after one of his dogs allegedly attacked a teenager and two dogs in 2023.
According to L'Équipe, a Madrid court document dated seven January says the private prosecution seeks a six-month prison sentence for unintentional injury through gross negligence, plus a fine. The public prosecutor is seeking a fine for a minor offence that caused injuries.
In January 2023, four of Mendy’s dogs reportedly escaped from his property in the affluent Madrid suburb of Alcobendas after a gate was left open when a vehicle entered.
One dog is said to have bitten a woman’s dog, then a 17-year-old who tried to intervene was bitten, along with a relative’s dog he was walking.
Mendy has endured numerous injuries since joining Real Madrid in 2019. In early May, the 31-year-old left-back suffered another right thigh problem, leaving him sidelined for several months.
