Fernando Diniz of Corinthians has been charged by the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva, STJD, over his post-match criticism of the officials after a 2-1 defeat at Mirassol. The hearing is set for Friday from 10:00 at STJD headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, with a maximum sanction of up to six matches.
According to Meu Timao, prosecutors cited article 258 of the Código Brasileiro de Justiça Desportiva, paragraph two, item II, which covers conduct contrary to sporting discipline or ethics, including disrespect towards the match officials or dissent delivered disrespectfully.
Diniz made his remarks at José Maria de Campos Maia, criticising referee Matheus Candançan and VAR official Marcio Henrique de Gois. He labelled the officiating poor, said he rarely comments on referees and felt there was nothing to praise.
He argued the referee failed to let the game flow and stressed this did not excuse Corinthians’ defeat. Diniz also contended the officials were too tolerant of delays and did not use yellow cards to curb fouls.
If punished by the STJD, assistant Léo Porto, who arrived with the new head coach, would be expected to stand in on the touchline.
