Fernando Diniz began his Corinthians tenure with a 2-0 win at Platense in the 2026 Libertadores. The victory in Vicente López lifted his debut record to nine wins, seven draws and five defeats from 21, a 54% return.
According to Meu Timao, Diniz started coaching in 2009 at Votoraty, winning the Paulista A3 and the Copa Paulista. His career has since included stints with Paulista de Jundiaí, Botafogo-SP, Atlético Sorocaba, Audax, Guaratinguetá, Paraná, Oeste, Athletico-PR, Fluminense, São Paulo, Santos, Vasco, Cruzeiro and the Brazil national team.
Beating Argentine opposition on a Libertadores debut is not new for Diniz. In 2021, his first game with Santos in the competition ended in a 1-0 win over Boca Juniors, and he was sent off.
He now turns to his Brasileirão bow for Corinthians. Palmeiras visit Neo Química Arena on Sunday at 18:30.
The hosts are seeking to pull away from the relegation zone and end a seven-match league drought. Their last victory came 1-0 against Athletico Paranaense in the third round.
