Fernando Diniz says there is a chance Memphis Depay could feature before the World Cup break, but only with a safe medical margin given his international commitments. The Corinthians coach hailed the Dutchman as a privilege to work with and stressed he wants him to stay.

Corinthians beat Barra 1-0 at Neo Química Arena on Thursday night to reach the Copa do Brasil last 16. It was their 13th straight match without the number 10, who is close to finishing recovery from a grade two strain in his right thigh. According to Meu Timao, the club are speaking to two companies, including Esportes da Sorte, about funding a two-year renewal on reduced wages.

Depay last played on 22 March in a 1-1 draw with Flamengo in the Brasileiro, helping start the move for Yuri Alberto’s goal at the same venue. He felt the injury in that passage and has been out since, so he has yet to appear under Diniz.

The 32-year-old’s contract runs until 20 June, leaving only five matches before it expires and before the calendar pauses for the World Cup.

Corinthians, burdened by total debt of about R$ 3 billion, are seeking partners to meet his pay. Depay’s deal, signed in September 2024, includes a signing-on fee, title bonuses and appearance, goal and assist clauses, plus salary and image rights of about R$ 3 million a month.

Esportes da Sorte previously covered part of his wages, but after renewing their agreement early this year, roughly R$ 57 million stopped being allocated solely to his contract. The parties are aligning outstanding points on a potential new deal for two more seasons on reduced terms.
