Fernando Gago suffered a health scare after appearing in discomfort during Universidad de Chile’s post-match press conference following the win over O'Higgins. He paused to drink water, then left the room. It was later confirmed he had suffered a heart attack.

The club said in a statement that he is in good condition, undergoing cardiovascular tests, and will not lead training today. It added that he is being supported by the medical staff.

Gago took charge of Universidad de Chile in 2026, his first role in Chilean football.

He began his managerial career at Aldosivi in 2021, then moved to Racing Club, where he established much of his coaching profile.

He later led Chivas de Guadalajara, Boca Juniors and Necaxa before accepting the Universidad de Chile job.
