Ferran Torres once asked David Villa for his 2010 World Cup final shirt, and the exchange has gained fresh resonance after Torres struck Spain’s winner against Argentina in 2026.

According to Superdeporte, Villa later honoured his promise after Barcelona’s Champions League meeting with PSG, handing over the Johannesburg jersey while working as a pundit. Torres joked at the time that he hoped some of Villa’s magic would rub off on him.

Years on, the Foios forward became the central figure in the final, scoring the decisive goal that delivered Spain a second star. He had earlier shared a photo from age 10 in Catarroja with the trophy, describing it as every child’s dream now realised.

The goal also served as personal vindication after periods of doubt, criticism and not being an automatic first choice for club or coach. He is now on holiday before the new season, with attention turning to his future.

The shirt swapping did not stop there. Torres gave his own shirt for Villa’s son, and Luca also received Pedri’s shirt from Torres. Villa joked that having a football-mad child has its perks, said he hopes Torres can surpass his Spain goal record and called him a wonderful player and a great person.
