Barcelona striker Ferran Torres had perhaps the moment of his career in the 2026 World Cup final, scoring the one goal that saw Spain lift the trophy.

After the tournament, during the celebrations in Madrid, Ferran was seen wearing a cap titled “Make Spain Great Again”.

The design inevitably drew comparisons with the “Make America Great Again” slogan associated with Donald Trump.

Ferran denies political message

Now, during an appearance on CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Ferran has clarified why he wore that cap during the celebrations.

The 26-year-old explained that the cap was simply intended to celebrate Spain returning to the top of international football.

“It was a fun moment. It wasn’t about politics because, honestly, I don’t understand politics,” Ferran said.

“It was simply about being able to see Spain at the top again, winning the World Cup.”

A private joke during public celebrations

Ferran added that the cap was connected to the happiness surrounding the triumph rather than any political position.

“It was simply to have fun with my friends and my family, but it had nothing to do with politics,” he said.

That distinction matters because the image travelled far beyond the football world, with the familiar style of the cap encouraging interpretations that the player says were never intended.

Even Trump spoke about Ferran wearing the cap, claiming that he saw the Spaniard’s gesture in good faith and appreciated it.

Barcelona forward closes the debate

Ferran’s comments should bring clarity to a moment that has sparked widespread discussion.

Ultimately, the important thing for the Barça striker is that he scored Spain’s winning goal and that his nation lifted the World Cup.

Ferran is now expected to return to Barça training soon, joining Hansi Flick’s pre-season camp, but his future is far from certain.

With less than 12 months left on his current deal, there is a good chance that the Spaniard leaves to move to PSG this summer.
