Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has lifted the lid on the mental transformation that helped him bounce back from his lowest moment at the club.
In a candid interview with Club del Deportista, the 25-year-old admitted that two years ago, he was gripped by doubt and uncertainty after what he describes as a “bad season” with Barça.
Recovering from recent appendicitis surgery, which sidelined him for the final matches of the La Liga season and the title celebrations, Ferran shared how adopting a “shark mentality” helped him rediscover his form and self-belief.
“Pressure makes you grow,” he said. “Having people pay attention to you motivates you. It’s impossible to please everyone, so I play it down when they think I’m a disruptor.

Ferran’s lowest point came when he questioned whether he could ever become a key figure at Barcelona again. “My worst moment was two years ago when I had a bad season with Barça,” he admitted.
“I had doubts about whether I could get back on my feet and be important. But I’ve managed it; I’ve come back stronger.
“From that came a better Ferran, with that better mentality, and who still has a lot of room for improvement. The best Ferran is yet to come.”
His comparison to a shark is not just for show, as it symbolises his relentless drive. “It’s the constant desire to improve, to never give up. It’s the ambition to overcome and reach the top. I make mistakes every day. That’s the basis of success: trial and error.”

Ferran also praised his current manager, Hansi Flick, calling him “a winner” and highlighting his approachable style. “He manages a top team wonderfully. He also shows a lot of affection to everyone, even more so to those who don’t play.”
He spoke fondly of Pep Guardiola too, crediting the Manchester City boss for first recognising his potential as a central striker.
“Pep is a visionary. He anticipates what’s going to happen in every game and he was the first to see the potential I’m showing as a number 9.”
On Luis Enrique, Ferran expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him during tough times, stating, “He helped me believe in myself more.”
Reserving warm words for his first Barcelona coach, Xavi, he noted, “He’s pure Barçaism.”

Looking ahead, Ferran dreams of winning the World Cup under Spain boss Luis de la Fuente: “Why not? It’s going to be very difficult, but we have a great team.”
Lastly, he also confirmed the positive atmosphere in the Barcelona dressing room, even joking about his teammates’ style. “I would definitely give Eric a few fashion lessons,” he laughed.
From being at rock bottom to becoming a key figure under Flick, Ferran Torres is proof that belief, resilience, and ambition can revive even the most uncertain careers. And as he says himself, “The best Ferran is yet to come.”
