Ferreira hat-trick as Tricolor thrash Cruzeiro at MorumBIS

On a night inspired by forward Ferreira, São Paulo thrashed Cruzeiro 4-1 on Saturday night at MorumBIS in the 10th round of the Brazilian Championship. Ferreira (three times) and Calleri scored the Tricolor’s goals.

With the result, the team coached by Roger Machado reaches ten points and sits among the top spots in the competition.

Tricolor returns to the field this Tuesday, the 7th, to face Boston River at 9:30 p.m. at the Centenario Stadium in Uruguay in its Copa Sudamericana opener. In the Brasileirão, the next match is on Saturday, the 11th, against Vitória at Barradão in Salvador.

The first half began very evenly, with the visitors having more possession, but São Paulo looked more dangerous whenever it attacked. In the 8th minute, Artur crossed and Calleri glanced a header that was saved by the goalkeeper. A minute later, Artur was brought down inside the box. In the 11th minute, Calleri converted the penalty to open the scoring at MorumBIS.

While the fans were still celebrating, in the 15th minute Artur burst forward and delivered a beautiful pass to Ferreira, who finished with class past the goalkeeper to extend the Tricolor side’s lead. In the 22nd minute, the team from Minas Gerais had a good chance with a shot from outside the box, but Rafael made the save.

In the second half, the visitors from Minas Gerais went on the attack and pulled one back in the very first minute. In the 7th minute, Rafael made a great save after a deflection from Arroyo. Then in the 16th minute, Artur swung in a sharp corner, Kaio Jorge got a touch and sent the ball onto the post. On the rebound, Ferreira smashed it home, scored his second goal, and sealed the win.

To turn the victory into a rout, in the 46th minute, after a quick counterattack, Marcos Antônio played Ferreira through, and he cut inside, dribbled past his marker, and struck firmly to score a great goal and cap off the São Paulo fans’ celebration.
