FIFA Arab Cup 2025: Can Egypt still qualify from Group C after 1-1 draw with UAE?

Egypt picked up important point in their FIFA Arab Cup campaign after drawing 1-1 with the UAE at Lusail Stadium on Saturday evening in tight and tactical Group C encounter.

UAE strike first

The match remained cagey until the 60 minute when the UAE broke the deadlock through Caio Lucas who found space inside the area before driving precise right footed finish beyond the Egyptian goalkeeper.

Egypt respond through Marwan Hamdy

Egypt pressed aggressively for an equaliser in the closing phase and their breakthrough arrived in the 85 minute.

A dangerous cross from Karim El Eraki found Marwan Hamdy who rose well to power header past the Emirati goalkeeper to make it 1-1.

Egypt thought they had completed the comeback five minute later when Mido Gaber scored but the effort was ruled out for offside after the referee’s review.

How it affects the group

Egypt are placed in Group C alongside UAE, Jordan & Kuwait and both sides still retain mathematical hopes of reaching the knockout stage heading into the decisive final matchday.
