Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay endured late disruption to their World Cup build-up after a flight permit error before their Group H opener against Saudi Arabia in Miami, which kicks off at 11pm.
FIFA said in a statement that an airline permitting error in Mexico delayed the team’s departure from Cancun to Miami, adding that the airline apologised and officials worked to speed up arrangements.
The initial flight was cancelled and a second plane was required before the squad could continue their journey.
The Argentine, a former Leeds United head coach, missed his scheduled Sunday press conference and addressed the media only after arriving in the United States.
He subsequently played down the setback, describing the travel as having caused no problems for his team.
