FIFA said on Wednesday it has opened an investigation into racist abuse directed at streamer IShowSpeed during the 2026 World Cup. Incidents were recorded around Argentina matches.

The governing body is examining remarks by an Argentina supporter during their 3-2 after extra time win over Cape Verde in the round of 32. Footage on social media appeared to show the fan calling him a monkey and telling him that R should go home.

On Tuesday, IShowSpeed attended Argentina’s 3-2 round-of-16 victory over Egypt and was targeted again. Wearing a Pharaohs shirt, the 21-year-old was mocked by a stand of Argentina fans. One supporter puffed out his cheeks, widened his eyes and took small steps, seemingly imitating a monkey.

The scene was streamed live by IShowSpeed, who asked what was wrong with the man.

Followed by more than 160 million subscribers, he is covering the tournament live under an agreement with FIFA, YouTube and Fox Sports. He often displays his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose shirt he frequently wears.
