The FIFA World Cup 26™'s star strikers did what they do best again on an exciting Matchday 12 on Monday.

It is time to dive into the top performers from FIFA's Power Rankings.

Group J

Argentina 2-0 Austria

Attacking Score: Lionel Messi

It couldn't be anyone else, could it? Despite missing a penalty and showing that he is in fact human after all, the night belonged to the Argentina captain as he became the World Cup™'s all-time record goalscorer and officially overtook Miroslav Klose.

Not content with scoring just once thanks to a crisp first half finish, he made sure of the points by bundling in a late rebound to secure an Attacking Score of 9.1.

Creativity Score: Marcel Sabitzer

Narrowly edging out Messi with a Creativity Score of 7.6, the Austria midfielder was an influential presence in the engine room throughout.

His line-breaking passes and positive, forward-thinking distribution regularly bypassed the Argentine midfield and he ranked number one in the contest for threatening passes.

Defending Score: Cristian Romero

Although he didn't last the full game, the Tottenham Hotspur defender did more than enough in his time on the park to chalk up an impressive 7.8 Defending Score.

He combined his usual tigerish ball-winning defending with an effective assurance in his own penalty box, regaining possession six times, putting in seven blocks and making four clearances to limit the Austrian attacking influence.

France 3-0 Iraq

Attacking Score: Kylian Mbappé

It is safe to say that the lengthy second half delay due to poor weather conditions had no impact on Mbappé's performance as he netted a goal in each half and registered 9.1 for his Attacking Score.

He was Les Bleus' biggest attacking threat, firing them ahead with a blistering left-footed effort from outside the penalty area and then adding another in the second half by being alert to pounce following a defensive error.

Creativity Score: Michael Olise

With a Creativity Score of 8.6, the Bayern Munich man topped all others on the park, highlighted by the two assists he provided for Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé.

He started the contest in an attacking midfield role but popped up all over the front line to cause Iraq plenty of problems and they could get no handle on his movement and fast feet.

Defending Score: Manu Koné

Koné's impressive shielding role in midfield saw him earn a game-topping Defending Score of 7.2.

Individually, he forced an excellent 14 turnovers (and helped in three more), won the only one-on-one duel he was involved in and was a big factor in keeping Iraq at bay for a clean sheet.

Norway 3-2 Senegal

Attacking Score: Erling Haaland

Not content with watching Messi and Mbappé get among the goals again, the Norway star followed suit with two more of his own to claim an Attacking Score of 7.6, narrowly edging out Senegal's Ismaïla Sarr who netted a brace of his own.

His finishes, one with each foot, were typically ruthless and have the Manchester City man already sitting on four for the tournament.

Creativity Score: Sadio Mané

Registering an excellent 9.2 Creativity Score, there was no doubt who the main spark for Senegal was in getting them going in the final third.

He produced seven ball progressions, claimed an assist and constantly provided options and an outlet on the left with his directness.

Defending Score: Moussa Niakhaté

Although his side were ultimately defeated, Niakhaté's display was still so good that he topped everyone else on the field for his Defending Score, registering a 6.9.

The Lyon man regained possession on seven occasions, put in four blocks in Norway's final third and also made seven clearances.

Jordan 1-2 Algeria

Attacking Score: Nadhir Benbouali

Although he didn't start, Benbouali needed just 45 minutes to make his impact, coming up with the crucial second half equaliser to turn the contest in Algeria's favour and pick up an Attacking Score of 8.5.

That header completely changed the game-state, turning the momentum in his side's favour and ultimately teed them up for the victory.

Creativity Score: Mousa Al-Tamari

Jordan's star man showed why he has such a glowing reputation, as his 7.7 Creativity Score for this contest will attest to.

He topped the charts thanks to an assist for his side's goal and repeated involvement in their best sequences of play going forward.

Defending Score: Ramy Bensebaini

The Dortmund man was top of the charts with a Defending Score of 7.8 thanks to a high recovery volume and success in his individual battles.

He won the ball back for his team on eight occasions, had a 100% win rate for duels and made both five tackles and five clearances in the defensive third.

At the FIFA World Cup 2026™, FIFA launched a new individual player ranking system based on data collected during matches. The FIFA Power Rankings provide objective, data-driven insight into player performance.

All outfield players will receive a score between 0-10 in three categories (attacking, creativity and defending). Goalkeepers will be scored in two categories: in possession and defending the goal. A ‘Power Ranking Classification’ will be produced after each match round, showing the top 100 players in each category. The Power Ranking is considered as a measure of match and tournament performance: each player receives a score for each match and for their overall performance in the tournament.
