Matchday 9 of World Cup 26™ is complete, so here is who performed best according to the official FIFA Power Rankings.
Attacking Score: Alex Freeman
Alex Freeman scored the USA’s second goal of the game to put them two ahead before the break, giving him a score of 7.4.
His attacking output proved to be decisive on the day as Mauricio Pochettino’s side surged into the knockout rounds.
Creativity Score: Cristian Volpato
Despite the disappointing result for Australia, second-half substitute Cristian Volpato made a strong creative impact after coming on.
His ball progressions and ability to break the lines gave his side the clearest route through the USA’s defence late in the game, earning him an impressive Creativity Score of 8.2.
Defending Score: Chris Richards
Chris Richards earned the highest defensive score of 8.5, owing to his strong presence in the heart of the USA backline.
He offered his side some much-needed stability as Australia threatened to claw their way back into the game.
Attacking Score: Ismael Saibari
It took Morocco’s Ismael Saibari a matter of minutes to produce the decisive moment of their narrow victory over Scotland.
He continued to be a key threat for Morocco, giving him an attacking score of 8.4.
Creativity Score: Brahim Díaz
Brahim Díaz earned the highest creative score of 8.7 due to his high number of ball progressions and his ability to create opportunities for his team.
He also played a key role in Morocco's only goal of the game, producing an excellent, well-timed pass to send Saibari through on goal within the opening minutes.
Defending Score: Neil El Aynaoui
Neil El Aynaoui ranked first in the game for defensive performance, owing to his ability to force turnovers and regain possession for his team.
He was pivotal to Morocco keeping a clean sheet, making his score of 9.1 fully justified.
Attacking Score: Vinícius Júnior
Vinícius Júnior was Brazil’s most influential attacking player against Haiti due to his dribbling ability and impressive chance creation.
His score of 8.0 is down to his three attempts from open play, one of which resulted in a goal, his seven successful take-ons and his assist for Matheus Cunha’s second.
Creativity Score: Lucas Paquetá
Lucas Paquetá was at the heart of Brazil’s chance creation and was crucial to linking midfield with the attack.
He registered the assist for Vinícius Júnior’s goal right before half-time, which earned him the highest score of 8.4.
Defending Score: Casemiro
Casemiro’s score of 7.7 is down to the fact he was Brazil’s key defensive anchor as they finally got their tournament up and running.
His presence ensured control in key areas of the pitch and he was able to limit Haiti’s ability to progress into attacking areas.
Attacking Score: Matías Galarza
Matías Galarza earned the highest attacking score of 8.6 as he scored the winning goal for Paraguay inside the opening two minutes.
He then remained disciplined both in and out of possession to help his side secure the much-needed win.
Creativity Score: Julio Enciso
With the assist for Paraguay’s winning goal, Julio Enciso earned the highest creative score of 8.4.
He also completed five of his seven attempted ball progressions, whilst being involved in the build-up to Paraguay’s remaining chances.
Defending Score: İsmail Yüksek
After falling behind early, Türkiye desperately needed to push forward in search of an equaliser and İsmail Yüksek was key to keeping them organised.
This was evident in his pressing during transitions, which helped prevent Paraguay counter-attacks.
At the FIFA World Cup 2026™, FIFA launched a new individual player ranking system based on data collected during matches. The FIFA Power Rankings provide objective, data-driven insight into player performance.
All outfield players will receive a score between 0-10 in three categories (attacking, creativity and defending). Goalkeepers will be scored in two categories: in possession and defending the goal. A ‘Power Ranking Classification’ will be produced after each match round, showing the top 100 players in each category. The Power Ranking is considered as a measure of match and tournament performance: each player receives a score for each match and for their overall performance in the tournament.
