FIFA has put on sale the chance for supporters to have their name and a message shown on stadium big screens at World Cup group-stage games from 11 June to 19 July. The slot costs $79 before tax, more than €68, and applies across the 72 group-stage fixtures.

According to The Athletic, the offer is part of FIFA’s Super Shoutout programme.

Although the website promotes appearances during matches, the small print confirms displays appear only in the pre-match period and not while the game is in progress. Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis, with no guarantee on duration or positioning.

FIFA retains control over messages and may refuse those containing inappropriate language or insults.

Supporters can also pay to have their name printed on the walkway carpet used by players as they leave the dressing rooms for the pitch, priced at $160, or €138. The move adds to debate over World Cup costs, judged exorbitant by supporters on site.
