Fifa have released Neymar’s official 2026 World Cup photos, and the Brazil No 10 hinted on social media that this tournament could be his last.

The images were published on Friday 5, days before Brazil open on 13 June. Responding to a Fifa post compiling his 2014, 2018 and 2022 appearances, he wrote “The Last Dance”. According to Diario Do Peixe, the phrase suggested a farewell to World Cups.

At 34, he is contesting his fourth World Cup, having played in Brazil, Russia and Qatar.

He is recovering from a grade 2 injury to his right calf, sustained for Santos against Coritiba in the Brasileiro. Since reporting for Brazil on 27, he has followed an intensive treatment schedule run by the CBF medical team, and in the United States he has kept the same routine used at Granja Comary.

Internally his progress is viewed as positive. He is doing daily physiotherapy, strength work and load management, plus specific drills to speed recovery. As a precaution he was left out of the friendly against Egypt.

He will undergo a new MRI on Monday 8 and is expected to return to pitch work later this week, with clearance only when fully recovered. Brazil face Morocco on 13 June, then Haiti on 18 June before Scotland on 24 June. The expectation is to have him involved during the group stage.
