FIFA warned footballers are playing too many games
Nottingham Forest forward Chris Wood has warned of a potential player strike if safeguards are not implemented to protect footballers' welfare.
A report by the world players' union Fifpro highlighted excessive demands on players, including insufficient recovery time and travel, across various competitions.
The report found that all 12 Club World Cup teams analysed failed to meet the recommended 28-day off-season rest period, with similar issues for players in the Euros and Copa America.
Fifpro is engaged in legal action against Fifa, accusing the governing body of failing to consult on the international calendar, leading to strained relations.
Despite Fifa mandating a 21-day off-season break, Fifpro's data revealed that many teams, including seven of those analysed for the Club World Cup, did not adhere to this minimum rest period.
