Who is playing today? 👀

Türkiye and Paraguay meet in California looking to pick up their first points of the 2026 World Cup™ after reversals in their opening games.

Despite being heavily favoured against Australia, Türkiye couldn't find a way past rookie goalkeeper Patrick Beach and went down to a 2-0 defeat.

Damián Bobadilla's early own goal put Paraguay in a hole they never recovered from and although Maurício's well-taken goal did provide them with a consolation, they were ultimately beaten 4-1.

Victory is vital for both here to keep their hopes of progression alive.

It was a surprise not to see Juventus forward Kenan Yıldız start for Türkiye in their opener and although Vincenzo Montella refused to directly address it, suggestions are that the medical staff have concerns about his fitness over an entire game.

He immediately improved his side's play upon his half-time introduction and will surely be in from the off here but there were individual positives elsewhere, notably from Arda Güler, who was their brightest creative spark.

Although they didn't quite click in the opener, Paraguay's attacking trio of Antonio Sanabria, Julio Enciso and Miguel Almirón have goals in them - and they'll need to find them in game two.

Must-watch video 🎥

It may have been 6am local time when Türkiye kicked off their World Cup™ campaign but it didn't stop supporters turning out en masse to cheer for them. That's dedication!

Fun facts 📊

  • These nations have met just once before - a friendly 31 years ago in Chile which ended in a 0-0 draw
  • Türkiye had 30 shots without scoring in their opening game, the most by any team in a FIFA World Cup™ fixture which did not go to extra-time since Uruguay against Sweden in 1974
  • Paraguay have won just two of their last 14 World Cup™ meetings with European opposition: a 3-1 success against Slovenia in 2002 and a 2-0 victory versus Slovakia in 2010

Our prediction 🔮

  1. Türkiye 2-1 Paraguay
