Filipe Luís has updated his Instagram, replacing the December 2023 photo from his final Flamengo match with a coaching portrait in the familiar black top he wore on the touchline. The change cuts a tie with Flamengo and points to his next career steps. He also added “coach” to his bio.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the former left back has agreed terms with Monaco on a contract running to 2028.
Out of Flamengo since March, Filipe Luís is close to returning to the dugout. He had been linked with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany and Fenerbahçe in Türkiye. The prospect of working and living in the Principality has appealed, and he would be tasked with taking the team into the Champions League.
He joined Flamengo midway through 2019 as a left back and won virtually everything on the pitch. At the end of 2023 he retired, and his profile picture showed him kneeling with a hand to his face on the Maracanã turf.
In 2024 he coached the club’s under-17 and under-20 sides, then replaced Tite late in the year and won the Copa do Brasil as manager. The 2025 season became a magical year with seven trophies, including the Libertadores and the Brasileirão. The fairytale ended with his dismissal in March this year.
