Anfield Watch understands Liverpool are lining up a move for their next Roberto Firmino.

Michael Edwards didn’t need a long passage in 2022 to reveal his favourite Liverpool signing. One small detail said everything - he had named his dog “Bobby.”

That could only mean one player. - Firmino.

the smiling Brazilian with dazzling skill and relentless energy was one of the fan favourites at Anfield during his time at the club, in the era when the Reds dominated under Jurgen Klopp.

Firmino stood out because he combined flair with extraordinary selflessness. He could produce moments of brilliance with clever flicks, inventive passes and vital goals, but he was equally valued for the work he did for the team.

Rather than chasing personal statistics, he sacrificed himself to create space and opportunities for those around him, helping Liverpool’s attack become one of the most feared in Europe.

Today, Firmino is rightly regarded as a modern Liverpool legend, although his rise to that status was far from guaranteed when he first arrived at Anfield.

Before joining Liverpool, he had impressed in Germany with Hoffenheim, where Michael Edwards and Liverpool’s recruitment staff identified him as a player whose underlying numbers and performances suggested enormous untapped potential.

Their analysis, supported by extensive scouting, convinced the club he could thrive in England.

That decision proved inspired. Firmino became a central figure in Liverpool’s successes under Klopp, winning major honours and earning admiration from teammates, coaches and supporters alike. Few signings of the modern era have had such a lasting influence on the club.

And since he left the club, it's fair to say Liverpool haven't really replaced him.

Hugo Ekitike has probably come the closest to reproducing the flair and evoking the love that Firmino had from the supporters but the Frenchman still has a long way to fulfil the Brazilian's legacy at Anfield.

With Ekitike's injury, Liverpool are also now exploring the conditions for adding another forward to their ranks.

It's already promising to be a hectic summer ahead for Richard Hughes and Edwards.

Not only do they have to add another winger, maybe even two. Depending on who leaves the club, they are now in the market for a versatile attacker as well - someone in the mould of Firmino, who can play across the front three and potentially in other positions as well.

Anfield Watch understands Liverpool have set their sights on a very exciting target who has drawn comparisons to Firmino.

We have reported that Liverpool are exploring a move for Senny Mayulu of Paris Saint Germain.

The 19-year-old is very highly rated. He scored in last season's Champions League final and has become a key squad player under Luis Enrique after coming through the academy in Paris. However, it is understood that he is considering his future with the French giants.

Mayulu has so far refused several contract offers as he seeks assurances of regular playing time for the French giants, which is something difficult to guarantee given the sheer depth of talent at PSG's disposal.

Anfield Watch understands Liverpool are confident Mayulu can play across the front line and he could be used in midfield as well - positions he has played for PSG.

The Reds see him as a potential false nine - to give Arne Slot another option in the no.9 position when Alexander Isak needs a breather.

But they also believe Mayulu's best role could be as the no.10 providing competition to Florian Wirtz, which is something that the Reds are looking to address this summer.

He's also capable of playing as a midfielder, again giving depth in an area where Liverpool are expected to have a major overhaul this summer.

What stands out about Mayulu is his pressing and defensive qualities combined with his ability to link-up with his teammates and arrive in the box.

The PSG youngster ranks among the league’s top 10 players for pressing duels and sits sixth for possessions won in the final third, averaging 1.20 recoveries per 90 minutes. Across more than 2,000 minutes this season, he has also won close to 70 per cent of his 6.74 defensive duels per game, underlining his effectiveness both on and off the ball.

Alongside his defensive work, Mayulu has contributed 11 goals and assists this season - an impressive return for a midfielder still developing his game. His timing in and around the penalty area has become one of his standout traits.

Liverpool will be monitoring his situation closely and see this as an opportunistic transfer this summer should the opportunity arise.

The strong French-speaking presence at Anfield could help convince him, with players such as Hugo Ekitike, Ibrahima Konaté and Jérémy Jacquet all sharing similar backgrounds connected to the Paris area. Not to mention Bradley Barcola is also on the club's radar.
