West Ham’s goalless draw at Crystal Palace confirmed the Premier League’s first relegation and marginally aided Leeds United’s position. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the point came with a missed chance to pull further clear.
Leeds had already strengthened their cushion on Saturday, beating Wolves 3-0 at home. Third-bottom Tottenham Hotspur then conceded late in a 2-2 home draw with Brighton, leaving Leeds eight points clear of the drop zone.
United’s win also kept them seven points ahead of fourth-bottom West Ham, who had a game in hand away at Palace on Monday. Seeking a victory to move four points clear of danger, the Hammers controlled long spells, with Jarrod Bowen repeatedly threatening.
Palace finished the brighter but could not find a breakthrough, and the match ended 0-0. The draw added a point to West Ham’s tally and left Spurs two points short of safety.
Crucially, the result sealed Wolves’ mathematical relegation, as their maximum haul can no longer surpass West Ham’s current 33 points.
