Five games to decide futures of out-of-contract Real Sociedad players | OneFootball

Real Sociedad enter the final five matches with uncertainty over several players whose deals expire in June. A fragile back line, having conceded 53 goals, is their worst return in five years.

According to AS, Aritz Elustondo, a captain with more than 10 seasons in the first team, must decide his next step. Aged 32, he has played only 701 minutes across Liga and Copa, though his standing was clear in the Copa celebrations as fans and team-mates urged him to stay. He wants minutes, yet knows opportunities at Real Sociedad will be scarce, while leaving would mean parting with his lifelong club.

Duje Caleta-Car arrived on loan last summer from Olympique de Lyon and, with Igor Zubeldia injured, has partnered Jon Martín. The 29-year-old has logged 2,359 minutes in 29 games and retains Pellegrino Matarazzo’s trust, but doubts persist over his marking and set pieces. The club hold an option to buy for about four million euros, and his future is unclear after falling short of expectations.

A call also awaits on Jon Pacheco after his loan at Deportivo Alavés.

Wesley Gassova, 21, joined in January from Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia to cover Take Kubo’s absence. Al-Nassr had paid 18 million euros to Corinthians for the Brazilian, who has managed only 77 minutes across four outings and has struggled with the tempo. There is a 12 million euro option, but on current form he does not look set to stay.

The club will weigh possible reinforcements in the summer to bolster a unit that has suffered without the ball. The sporting department will work on these files and on others who, despite being under contract, lack assured roles.
