Flaco López returns to Palmeiras as contract talks loom | OneFootball

Flaco López reported back to Palmeiras on Monday 27 after a week off, having been World Cup runner-up with Argentina.

According to Nosso Palestra, the club plan talks over a new contract with the striker and his camp, with a salary increase seen as key to his stay.

The hierarchy aim to underline the sporting project and keep him in the squad. Internally, Palmeiras do not intend to sell leading players in this window and want to preserve the core.

Even so, the situation is being handled with caution. European interest is expected following that campaign, and his stay becomes hard to sustain if bids above 40 million euros, roughly R$260 million, arrive. That view is shared by the club and the player’s representatives, who are waiting on market movement.

On the pitch, López is Palmeiras’s top scorer and pivotal to Abel Ferreira’s set-up. The team remain in the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores, and lead the Brasileirão by six points over Flamengo.
