Flaco praises Palmeiras’ form, targets Brazil call-up this year

Flaco López was the standout player for Palmeiras in the 1-0 victory over Mirassol on Saturday night at Arena Barueri, in the third round of the Campeonato Paulista. Brought on by coach Abel Ferreira in the second half, he came on, won a foul, and headed the ball into the back of the net. The Argentine highlighted the importance of Verdão's positive streak and valued the squad rotation.

“This winning streak we’re on is very important. It’s also giving everyone minutes so that everyone feels important as well. A very important win, against a team that is doing things very well. I’m happy for that and for helping the team. We need to keep working so we can go into the next games with more of an advantage and functioning even better,” he told TV Record.

2026 is a World Cup year. A standout for Palmeiras last season, the number 42 was the team’s top scorer and received his first call-up to the Argentina national team. The striker has his eyes on the World Cup, but made it clear that hard work at Alviverde comes before anything else, and a call from Lionel Scaloni would just be a consequence.

“It’s very, very important [to score goals], to feel good and help the team, it’s always important to score. That’s it, it’s a World Cup year and I have to do my job here so I can be in my best form and be available for the coach of the Argentina national team,” emphasized the center forward.

Flaco found the net for the first time this season and feels good about performing for another year in the Palmeiras shirt. The Argentine mentioned that he hasn’t set a goal target, but stressed one objective: to be better than in 2025. Last year, he scored 25 goals and had six assists in 64 matches.

“No, man, I always try to outdo myself year after year, I try to do things well, to be better than the year before. I’m still a kid who keeps learning, I’m feeling good and happy to be part of this great team. I just have to do my best, and the goals and assists will come as a result of the work,” the player concluded.
