According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos held their traditional anniversary ceremony at Monte Serrat on Tuesday, 14 April, raising the flag to mark 114 years.
The celebration featured an ecumenical service conducted by Father Joseph Paul, and the anthem accompanied the hoisting as José Simonian performed.
President Marcelo Teixeira attended alongside members of the Management Committee, club councillors, club legends, staff and supporters.
Teixeira said commemorating the date at Monte Serrat is a club tradition. He expressed gratitude, said the flag remains during the festivities at one of the highest points in the Baixada Santista, and acknowledged the work of directors, staff and athletes throughout the club’s history.
Founded on 14 April 1912, the club have won all possible titles for a football team, including two world crowns, three Libertadores, eight Brazilian league titles, one Copa do Brasil and 22 Paulista championships.
The greatest player of all time, Pelé, wore the famous shirt in 1,116 matches and scored 1,091 goals.
Monte Serrat is significant in the city’s past, once a refuge when the then village faced pirate raids. In 1614, one attack ended with the invaders buried, and the miracle was attributed to Our Lady, who became the city’s patron in 1955.
