Flamengo and Remo meet on Thursday at 20h, Brasília time, at the Maracanã, their first Brasileiro clash since 1978 and the sixth in the competition.
In the league, Flamengo have two wins and Remo three, all between 1972 and 1978. The Pará club spent 32 years out of Série A and are debuting in the points-based era. Globo.com details the previous Brasileiro meetings between the clubs.
On 21 October 1973, Remo won 2-1. Rodrigues struck after a Rondinelli error, Zico levelled, then Caíto won it in stoppage time amid offside protests, and Fred was sent off early in the second half.
On 1 June 1974 at the Maracanã, Flamengo won 3-0 under Joubert. Zico supplied two assists, with Paulinho scoring before the break and Doval adding another after it.
On 25 October 1975, Remo earned a 2-1 victory at the Maracanã, their only Maracanã win over Flamengo. Alcino and Mesquita scored, Zico had equalised, goalkeeper Dico made 16 notable saves and Renato erred for both goals.
On 2 April 1978, Flamengo won 1-0 at the Mangueirão, Valdo scoring while deputising for injured Adílio. Interim boss Joubert, with Cláudio Coutinho on Seleção duty after a brief Remo stint, oversaw a win that ended a four-year drought, with Zico and Toninho Baiano absent.
