Flamengo have pivoted in this transfer window, moving for Gabriel Brazão, Vitão, Marcos Antônio and Kaio Jorge, each a standout for his club last season, a push to strengthen themselves while weakening Brazilian rivals.

According to Globo.com, the approach contrasts with mid-2025 when all reinforcements came from Europe. Jorginho from Arsenal, Saúl and Samuel Lino from Atlético de Madrid, Emerson Royal from Milan and Carrascal from Dínamo Moscou formed a R$ 300 million spend, the most aggressive in the club’s history.

Looking inward does not mean spending less. The final deal for Vitão, bought from Internacional, was close to 10 million euros, around R$ 65 million, including forgiving nearly 5 million euros owed by Internacional for Thiago Maia.

Vitão is the sole addition so far. Santos view goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão as non-negotiable, with a R$ 370 million clause for Brazilian clubs. São Paulo only just completed Marcos Antônio for 4.2 million euros and would consider talks only for a higher fee.

Cruzeiro have rejected three Flamengo bids for Kaio Jorge, the latest at 30 million euros. Even so, Flamengo have signalled a willingness to invest, with that Kaio Jorge offer the biggest the club have ever made for a player.

The board aim to build depth with two starting XIs, targeting undisputed starters at their clubs. They also say they will withstand interest in their key players to avoid having to choose competitions in 2026.
