Flamengo have offered public support to Wesley after the Roma full-back was cut from Brazil’s squad with a left leg injury. The decision came on Sunday after the final pre-World Cup friendly.

Wesley was hurt against Egypt in Cleveland, coming off after 16 minutes and replaced by Danilo. He asked to be withdrawn after feeling pain in his left leg and received treatment from doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and the medical team.

An MRI confirmed an injury to the adductor muscle in his left thigh. He left the stadium limping and was consoled by team-mates on the bench.

On social media, Flamengo described the setback as a sad chapter and told Wesley his future remains bright. Léo Pereira, Danilo and Paquetá were among those offering support.

Midfielder Éderson has been called up as his replacement.

An academy graduate from Ninho do Urubu, Wesley joined Roma from Flamengo in July last year in a deal worth 25 million euros plus 5 million in add-ons. He made 139 appearances for Flamengo, scoring four goals and providing six assists.
