According to Globo.com, Flamengo have identified three targets for the transfer window that opens next week, with reinforcements approved by football chiefs and head coach Leonardo Jardim.

One of those negotiations concerns Thiago Almada of Atlético de Madrid. Terms are largely aligned with the player’s camp, but his own decision will only come after the World Cup final, when Argentina face Spain on Sunday.

Almada also has a €20m offer from River Plate, including performance-related add-ons and worth R$117m. He still prioritises remaining in Europe, yet with no current offers he has opened the door to returning to Brazilian football. Flamengo are leaning on their relationship with the Spanish club after talks over Samuel Lino, as well as more attractive terms, including fewer instalments.

The other two targets are described as relatively advanced, having been approved by Boto and Jardim, and now await president Bap’s financial green light. The president must sign off on the sporting case, but above all on the numbers.

In both cases the sought profile is younger, less-hyped players with strong fitness records to withstand a heavy schedule. The club are keeping names under wraps to protect plan A and avoid inflating the market, and choices are being filtered by the trio of Bap, Boto and Jardim after several alternatives were rejected.
