Flamengo’s deliberative council has approved the return of Lubrax, a Vibra brand, to the upper back of the shirt from one October, replacing Hapvida.
According to Globo.com, the agreement runs for three years with a minimum total of R$ 24.5 million, and Hapvida will move to the inside of the numbers, the slot previously occupied by Texaco.
Lubrax became Flamengo’s first shirt sponsor in April 1984. The club received 60 million cruzeiros to display the brand across six Campeonato Brasileiro matches, then another 90 million cruzeiros for the final three Libertadores group games.
The initial black lettering on a yellow rectangle lasted five games before giving way to white text on the shirt’s black hoop. The deal covered the Brasileiro knockouts and the Libertadores triangular, then in July was renewed for six months for 70 million cruzeiros.
From 1985 the contract switched to an annual basis, covering the entire season and all club sports, at around 340 million cruzeiros per month. Lubrax held the master position until 2006, moved to the sleeve, and Cartão Petrobras took the main space.
Two years later the brand returned to the main space and remained until April 2009, when the partnership ended amid difficulties in receiving payments due to the club’s tax debts. The final match with the logo was a 1-0 win over Americano at Godofredo Cruz in the Campeonato Carioca.
