Flamengo have sacked 40-year-old head coach Filipe Luis just hours after an 8-0 semi-final win over Madureira in the Carioca Championship.
The club said in a statement that from Tuesday he would no longer lead the first team, thanking the former Brazil international full-back for his contribution.
Sporting director José Boto informed him minutes after his press conference, and Luis was said to have been taken by surprise. Assistants Ivan Palanco and Diogo Linhares also depart.
The emphatic victory sealed a place in the regional final against fierce rivals Fluminense.
Despite having the biggest budget in South America, Flamengo have stumbled this year, losing the Supercopa do Brasil to Corinthians 2-0 and the Recopa Sudamericana to Lanus 3-2 at the Maracana.
In charge since September 2024, Luis lifted five trophies, the Copa Libertadores, the Brazilian league, the Brazilian Cup and Super Cup, and the Carioca Championship. In December, Flamengo lost the Intercontinental Cup final on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain.
