Flamengo title-winner compares Evertton Araújo to Real Madrid idol Casemiro | OneFootball

Luiz Antonio, a 2013 Copa do Brasil winner with Flamengo, has likened Evertton Araújo to Casemiro after the youngster’s strong start to the season.

“Evertton Araújo, making fair comparisons, resembles Casemiro’s style of play. Casemiro does pass forward more, he provides assists and scores. But those are traits Evertton can acquire by training. Evertton is quicker, stronger and younger than Casemiro,” Luiz Antonio told ESPN.

Since last season, coach Filipe Luís has been handing the midfielder minutes. In 2026 he has progressed physically and tactically and has drawn praise from the Flamengo manager in recent press conferences.

Evertton has already been involved in key moments and trophies for the club, including last season’s Libertadores and Brasileirão titles.

With him available, Flamengo are in Argentina preparing for the Recopa Sul-Americana, and on Wednesday 18 Filipe Luís oversaw their final session before facing Lanús.

The first leg is at 21:30 Brasília time on Thursday 19 in Argentina.
