According to Lance, Flamengo returned to Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday morning after being eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup by Bayern Munich. The squad landed at Tom Jobim International Airport missing seven key players—Arrascaeta, Bruno Henrique, Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira, Rossi, Viña, and Pedro—all of whom remained in the United States to use the break granted to the squad following their exit.
The Rio side’s brief campaign saw them clear the group stage comfortably, topping Group D after a victory over Chelsea. However, an unfavorable draw meant facing Bayern Munich in the round of 16. The German side imposed themselves with intense pressing and capitalized on Flamengo’s errors, particularly when playing out from the back. Loses in possession were costly, culminating in a 4-2 defeat that brought Flamengo’s run to an abrupt end.
After Sunday’s loss, the mood at the airport was subdued, with players departing quietly and avoiding the media. The club has given the group four days off, with a return to training scheduled for Saturday as preparations begin for the next domestic fixture against São Paulo. Details for that match are yet to be confirmed.
Flamengo will be keen to refocus on domestic objectives, given their early exit from international competition. According to the club, the rest granted now is seen as a chance to reset ahead of a demanding stretch in the domestic calendar.
