Spain beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time to clinch the 2026 World Cup, and Flamengo midfielder Saúl Ñíguez marked the triumph online.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the Spaniard shared the national team’s artwork honouring their World Cup squad on his social channels, congratulated the team and voiced his support for Spain.
He is Spanish and was included in Spain’s 2018 World Cup squad, though he did not feature at the tournament.
Spain controlled the 90 minutes and created several chances, but it remained goalless. Extra time followed the same pattern, and in the second period Nico Willians set up Ferran Torres to finish first time and secure the title.
During the World Cup break he completed Flamengo’s full programme, training at Ninho do Urubu and working in the Algarve, Portugal. The club staged four friendlies, with head coach Leonardo Jardim giving him minutes to assess his qualities.
Flamengo face Chapecoense on Wednesday 22 at 21:30 Brasília time at Arena Condá in Chapecó. Rede Globo and Premiere will broadcast the match.
