Flawed academy starlet must play ahead of defender who just doesn’t want to be there

Josh Acheampong is being underused by a second Chelsea manager this season, and many fans aren’t happy about that.

There are a few common gripes between Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, and one of them is their consistent overlooking of Josh Acheampong.
The young academy defender is immensely talented, but still hasn’t been given many chances even as the defenders higher than him in the pecking order continue to fail.
Wesley Fofana was rewarded for shocking performances against PSG and Newcastle with another start on Saturday, and the London is Blue podcast just don’t get it.
“You have Josh sitting there, who has not been perfect himself,” presenter Dan Dormer said.
“But I think if I’m looking for any type of solution right now, for what would be better than what we saw this weekend. I’m probably choosing the younger academy player, the player who is trying to make sure they can be in this team next season, over the player with consecutive, back to back poor starts. And just really losing their man in really, really difficult fashion.”
We’ll put it this way – we’d rather lose with Josh playing his hardest and making a mistake, than with Fofana half-arsed jogging back.
