FC Barcelona continued preparations for the new season on Tuesday with a lighter schedule after Monday’s demanding double training session.

Hansi Flick’s squad trained only in the morning, with the afternoon reserved for recovery.

The standout new face at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper was Jordi Pesquer, who joined the first-team session for the first time in his career, reports SPORT.

First call-up for Pesquer

Pesquer, a left-back developed at La Masia, is regarded as one of the academy’s most promising defenders.

The 17-year-old, who represents Spain at U17 level and recently featured at the UEFA European U17 Championship, was invited to train alongside the senior squad as part of his continued development.

His inclusion reflects the confidence Barcelona has in one of the academy’s emerging talents.

Progressing through the academy

Pesquer will enter his second season as a youth player this year after already becoming a regular with the Juvenil A squad under Pol Planas last season.

He played an important role during Barcelona’s run to the Copa de Campeones final against Real Madrid and signed a new contract with the club last summer.

The defender is also expected to feature prominently for Juliano Belletti’s Barça Atletic during the upcoming campaign.

Standing at 1.83 meters, Pesquer combines strong physical attributes with attacking instincts. Coaches value his ability to push forward, link up with teammates, and deliver quality distribution from the left flank.

Within the club, he is viewed as one of the academy players with the potential to eventually compete for a place in Barcelona’s first team if his development continues on its current trajectory.

Araujo continues to work, no Gariba

Meawhile, Monday’s biggest news had been the return of captain Ronald Araujo, who became the first World Cup participant to rejoin the squad after Uruguay’s early elimination.

The defender missed the tournament through injury but has now resumed pre-season preparations under Flick’s guidance and worked today as well.

One academy player who remains unavailable is Hafiz Gariba. The Ghanaian centre-back has been recovering from a viral illness since last Friday and was again absent from training.

The Catalans expect him to return once he has fully recovered, with coaches eager to continue monitoring the progress of another highly rated young defender.
