Flick set to begin preseason at Barcelona with revamped coaching staff | OneFootball

The upcoming 2026-27 season is set to bring notable changes to FC Barcelona. Hansi Flick will still have the core of his team intact, but there will also be several important changes. For instance, Robert Lewandowski has already left, while Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi are going to be new additions to his squad. Meanwhile, the futures of other players like Ferran Torres and Raphinha also remain uncertain.

The German coach is set to start preseason training today, on Monday, and as Mundo Deportivo has noted, there are also going to be some changes in his coaching staff, even though its core will also remain unchanged.

The fitness department would see the most changes, especially with the arrival of Michael Kugel, who would be replacing Julio Tous. The latter has been reassigned to other, lower-level teams, while the former’s arrival was confirmed a few days ago, and his main responsibilities would include strengthening the team’s physical training methodology, workload management, injury prevention, and individualized recovery.

The rest of the staff would remain almost the same, consisting of Marcus Sorg, Toni Tapalović, Heiko Westermann, Pepe Conde, Raul Martinez, and José Ramón de la Fuente, while Lucas del Campo would be another new addition. On the other hand, Thiago Alcantara left at the end of the last season, while German Fernandez and Rafa Maldonado were also reassigned to Barca Ateltic.

Marcus Sorg, the assistant coach and one of the most experienced coaches in German football, remains Flick’s right-hand man. His main functions include weekly planning, opponent analysis, and tactical preparations for games, and thus he remains one of the most influential individuals in the staff.

Toni Tapalovic is involved in tactical preparation and individualized training, while Heiko Westermann, a former German international defender, is an assistant manager and serves as a link between the bench and the players. Jose Ramon de la Fuente continues to head goalkeeper training.
