Hansi Flick condemned xenophobic chanting and called for a united stance against racism as Barcelona prepare to face Atlético on Saturday. His side must also cope with Raphinha’s absence for about one month.

According to Superdeporte, the international break left two major takeaways for Barça, first the winger’s injury, then the chants heard during Spain’s friendly with Egypt. Flick described the offenders as a small group of idiots and urged clarity and firmness from society.

Flick said there is no place for racism in football or life, stressing the need for a common message against it. He is aware Lamine Yamal has been targeted in stands because of his background and faith.

The teenager faced abuse on his first visit to the Bernabéu with Barça. Similar chants were later heard at Espanyol, allegedly aimed at Egypt internationals rather than him.

With Raphinha sidelined, Barça begin the season’s final sprint. Flick framed the setback as part of football and welcomed the availability of Jules Kounde, Alejandro Balde and Eric Garcia after the latter shook off discomfort.

None of that trio are forwards, so Marcus Rashford will cover the wide role after his own fitness issues. Flick said it is a good moment for him to show his level, adding he is pleased with the loanee, while stopping short of any commitment over Rashford’s future with Barcelona. Rashford is on loan from Manchester United.
