Sunderland’s Premier League return has been a success, and Kristjaan Speakman’s exit underlined Florent Ghisolfi’s growing authority. He has fronted the last two windows and, with safety virtually assured, attention turns to how his 17 recruits have fared.
According to Sunderland Echo, Granit Xhaka and goalkeeper Robin Roefs both earned 10/10, Xhaka’s control and leadership marking a generational capture. Nordi Mukiele and Noah Sadiki received 9.5, with Sadiki outstanding before his AFCON departure.
Omar Alderete scored 9, and Brian Brobbey also 9 after an initial fee of around £17 million. Reinildo impressed at left back for 8, while Chemsdine Talbi at 7.5 and Habib Diarra at 7 have shown promise, Diarra hampered by injury and AFCON.
Bertrand Traoré was a canny 7 before absence, and Lutsharel Geertruida a solid 7.5 on loan with an option still to consider. Melker Ellborg’s early 7.5 points to potential, Nilson Angulo’s start merited 7, and Jocelin Ta Bi was unrated after injury.
Simon Adingra’s fit never quite clicked for 5, Marc Guiu managed 5 before recall, and Arthur Masuaku’s limited role brought 3. Enzo Le Fée was excluded as his deal pre-dated Ghisolfi’s arrival.
Many signings were long-tracked and blended youth with top-level experience to match Régis Le Bris’s style. The next task is to keep adding talent without sacrificing the defensive solidity built this season, while a new recruitment structure under Ghisolfi may lead to subtle shifts in strategy.
