Sunderland are being linked with a midfield addition and a potential departure, with Celtic’s Arne Engels and loanee Alan Browne central to the latest speculation.

Sky Sports reported earlier this week that Sunderland are among several clubs monitoring Engels in Glasgow, with Nottingham Forest and Premier League rivals Fulham also tracking the Belgian.

TuttoMercatoWeb claims Napoli could lose André-Frank Zambo Anguissa in the coming weeks and have identified Engels as a possible replacement, with competition expected from Sunderland and Forest. The outlet adds that both English clubs have already submitted enquiries and suggests an offer above £21.6 million may persuade Celtic to sell.

On the outgoing front, Middlesbrough are weighing up a permanent move for Sunderland midfielder Browne after his season on Teesside, where he made 42 appearances as Boro lost the Championship play-off final to Hull City.

The Northern Echo reports that head coach Kim Hellberg wants to go one step further next term and is considering bringing Browne back to the Riverside to strengthen midfield options. Boro are expected to recruit at least two midfielders this summer, and Browne remains on their shortlist.
