Sunderland's summer business is ramping up, with a major contract close and high-profile targets under consideration as Régis Le Bris prepares for Premier League and Europa League.
Sunderland Echo understands a new deal with goalkeeper Robin Roefs until 2031 is agreed in principle, with formalities to complete and signing expected in the coming days.
Roefs was integral last season and, at his age, retains sizeable upside. A long agreement gives Sunderland security as Florent Ghisolfi builds around Le Bris’ core.
Recruitment has also delivered Jules Ahoka from Royal Antwerp on a long-term contract for about £8m to £8.6m, joining Thomas Meunier and Dayann Méthalie among the arrivals.
Barcelona midfielder Marc Casadó, 22, has been linked and discussions over a potential exit have been suggested. Any permanent move could cost between £25.8m and £34.4m, with English interest elsewhere.
Geny Catamo remains a leading wide option. The Sporting CP winger is open to Wearside and work permit routes have been explored, though talks with the club are proving difficult.
Catamo has a clause of about £51.6m, but figures nearer £34.4m have been discussed externally. Further progress is needed between clubs if interest is to become a deal.
Palmeiras prospect Riquelme Fillipi, 19, is also on the radar. The Brazilian side previously rejected an offer around £15m and the winger has limited senior minutes but clear upside.
Sunderland have targeted right-sided attacking depth through the summer. They host Fulham in their first home match after a 2-1 defeat at Ipswich Town.
