Sunderland face three major contract calls this summer as Florent Ghisolfi readies a squad for a second Premier League season and the Europa League. The cases concern Lutsharel Geertruida, Bertrand Traoré and Dennis Cirkin, all out of contract.

He must strengthen the senior group and manage potential exits, according to Sunderland Echo.

Sunderland must decide whether to trigger their purchase option on Geertruida. He has been reliable and excellent recently, yet spent long spells outside Régis Le Bris’s preferred XI and nearly joined Liverpool on loan in January.

Recently the internal view has been that a permanent deal is very unlikely, though Europa League qualification could shift things while the clause still has time to run. Since the win at Newcastle United he has shone at right-back. Early prediction, Geertruida departs.

Extending Traoré once felt straightforward after a shrewd deadline-day signing who soon made right wing his own. After AFCON he suffered two knee injuries and played only a brief cameo at Elland Road, with Jocelin Ta Bi and Nilson Angulo preferred as he rebuilt fitness.

His wages are significant and the position is likely to be reinforced. Early prediction, Traoré leaves.

Cirkin impressed when Reinildo went to AFCON but injuries again interrupted him. A new deal would offer left-sided cover and help meet UEFA’s homegrown registration rules for the Europa League next season, though availability remains a concern. Early prediction, he leaves.
